Centipede - Cryptops hortensis

This is a shiny brown, eyeless centipede that lives under stones, plant litter and in other dark and damp places in gardens. Like all centipedes it has poison fangs, but these are far too small to have any effect on people.

Being blind, it relies on the senses of touch and smell to find its way around and to find prey. It is common throughout England.

Food

Predatory on other soil and ground dwelling invertebrates.
